blog

IPL 2023 is about to start on Mar 31, 2023 and this time IPL governing council introducing some new rules. In this IPL captains can declare the team after the toss and teams have to name their impact players for the match.

Those rules are first introduced in SA20 and now IPL governing council adopting them. It is giving some confusion among the team management and fantasy cricket users.

Let’s first talk about the new rules first:

Team Declaration Rule after the Toss:

This rule was introduced for minimizing the impact of the toss. Now, teams can declare the player details after the toss so they can decide the players according to decision. Before this rule, teams have to declare the team before the toss and exchange the player’s sheet with rival teams.

Sometimes toss became a very crucial part of the game, especially in India. The dew factor plays a big role here and making hard for spinners to turn the ball. Overall it is in the testing stage and let’s see how it will impact the team’s decision.

The Impact Player Rule:

Now, each team has to declare a total of 15 players for the match. Along with playing 11, they also have to name 4 impact players. They can use 1 impact player in the match.

So, here are some details about the Impact player rule:

Both teams have to declare 4 impact players before the match.

Only one player can be replaced by the impact player and the replaced player cannot participate in that match and can’t be used as a substitute player.

Indian & foreign players can be used as impact players but they have to fulfill certain conditions. The them which is using only  3 foreign players in their playing 11, can use an overseas player & only nominate one foreign player as an impact player.

The team can use any one of the announced impact players and the replaced player can no longer be participating in the match even as a substitute player but there is some condition by which the changed player can use a substitute.

The team can use the impact player before starting the match and a batting side can use the impact player after falling a wicket. The bowling side can also use an impact player after taking a wicket but the player is not able to bowl in that over, suppose a bowling team took the wicket in 5.3 overs and call for an impact player for bowing but he is not able to deliver remaining 3 balls of that particular over. He is allowed to bowl his 4 overs in the match. If due to any reason match over has been reduced then he has to bowl laser overs.

Penalty Rule for Unfair Play:

There are some penalties for unfair sportsmanship. If the wicketkeeper or fielders make any unfair movement that is against the spirit of the game, then the fielding team will be penalized by the official and will grant 5 extra runs to the batting side and the ball will be called dead ball.

Injured Players:

In this season, there are some important players who will miss the IPL or may be available later part of the IPL 2023. Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah & Shreyas Iyer are among the Indian players who will not be available for their franchise. While Jonny Bairstow,  Kyle Jamieson, and Will Jacks are among the foreign players who will miss this IPL 2023.

IPL is also a grand season for fantasy cricket lovers. Now, it will become interesting for them to create a team in a fantasy cricket app because new rules will impact their team prediction.
